About Blind Tennis Lithuania
A growing blind and visually impaired tennis community bringing together players, coaches, volunteers and people who believe sport should be accessible to everyone.
Blind Tennis Lithuania
To ensure the long-term development of blind tennis in Lithuania, the sports club "Blind Sport Lt" was established in 2023.
The organisation coordinates training activities, tournaments, international events and initiatives that promote inclusive sport across the country. Blind Sport Lt is a member of the International Blind Tennis Association (IBTA) and the Lithuanian Tennis Union.
Blind Tennis in Lithuania
Blind tennis in Lithuania began in 2021 in Vilnius. Since then, the community has steadily expanded and is now active in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Šiauliai.
Lithuanian players regularly compete in international tournaments, as well as European and World Blind Tennis Championships, representing the country on the international stage.
What We Do
Our activities include:
- regular blind tennis training sessions,
- national and international tournaments,
- open demonstration sessions for newcomers,
- blind tennis awareness activities,
- cooperation with Lithuanian and international organizations.
Our goal is to create more opportunities for blind and visually impaired people to stay active, improve their skills, and become part of a supportive sports community.
History
The First Player
Blind tennis in Lithuania officially began on 4 May 2021 at M7 Sport Balzekas Tennis Academy in Vilnius. B1 category player Karolis Verbliugevičius became Lithuania's first blind tennis player.
Club Founded & First Medals
Sports club "Blind Sport Lt" was established. That same year Karolis Verbliugevičius won 2nd place at the World Blind Sports Games in Birmingham and 3rd place at the World Blind Tennis Championship in Kraków.
European Champion & Roland Garros
Karolis Verbliugevičius became European Champion in Warsaw, defeating the world number one. Blind tennis was presented at the legendary Roland Garros courts in Paris and the ITF World Coaches Conference in Vilnius.
World Championship in Vilnius
24–29 August 2026, Vilnius — SEB Arena will host the IBTA World Blind Tennis Championship, the biggest blind tennis event in Lithuanian history.
